It’s getting a bit colder now, but yesterday we still used the brilliant weather for a trip to the beach. “Trip”, that sounds way too involved, the beach is actually just down the road from here and a place where I shoot a lot in the summer. All of summer we regularly went for a walk there, but always found it a bit too crowded to stay. There wasn’t space to comfortably sit without feeling your private space invaded and walking along the water was always a bit of an obstacle course. Now that the season is almost over, it was a bit emptier, which meant less pictures and more sunshine for us, since we had enough space to actually sit down comfortably. Somehow I managed not to burn myself too much in the process either!
I hope the weather holds out a bit longer so that we can make use of the calmer end of the season, although I doubt I’ll get many more pictures in now. It’s probably almost time to pack up my Canon SureShot WP-1, which has been doing a great job this summer. I’m shooting these beach pictures as a long term project and mainly for myself, so I’m not planning to post the main bulk of them anytime soon. However, I wanted to give you some impressions of the kind of results I have been getting from the Canon so far. Not bad at all I’d say. And as you can see Kodak Gold 200 is just perfect for the beach! Originally I wanted to use Ektar 100 for the project, but I think Kodak Gold with its vacation feel fits even better.
All pictures taken with: Canon SureShot WP-1, 32mm, f/3.5.
Kodak Gold 200 developed in Fuji Hunt C41 Kit, Jobo CPE-2.
Definitely my favourite of these.
Something I wouldn’t do with the Leica. Almost throwing the camera into the wet sand!
It was rather early in the morning, still empty.
This on the contrary was already quite late. Wonderful light.
That vehicle collects the safety flags. Red means no swimming.
Enjoying the view.
Very bright around there.
Someone was playing with planet Earth. Like humans do.
They say that the WP is weather proof. Well, if you’re careful about the seal it’s actually waterproof to some extent.
One more in the water.
Surfers everywhere.
The autofocus isn’t as infuriating as with my digital cameras.
It’s not Leica sharp, but decent enough, I’d say.
Almost looks like some sort of marine creature that just came from the sea.
Climbing around on the new breakers. They weren’t quite as high before they renewed them after that massive storm.
I like the first one best as well. All the beach photos could easily be Cornwall!
I think beach photos are pretty much universal. Everywhere the same kind of joy 🙂
As to be 4 down for me, the people in the distance on the beach are a killer for me. Lovely shot all round that one. Nice set Lilly who needs a Leica……..:)
Thanks Harry. Well, that Canon definitely isn’t as sharp as my Zeiss lens, but I would worry about the Leica too much. All that sand and salt water! Several times I was very happy that the Canon is waterproof, because a wave caught me full on. And of course the cloth shutter of the Leica would mean that one would have to be very careful shooting against the sun too. In this case the Leica would definitely be the wrong tool!
