After waiting for such a long time to see the pictures from the many rolls I shot in Argentina I’m rather pleasantly surprised by the results. I developed a few rolls already before, but I’m only now really getting started properly after spending quite some time ironing out development problems. It’s really quite enjoyable to finally see some progress and I’ve now developed more than half of the rolls I brought back. About time after 4 months! Only 25 more rolls to develop and I’ll be done. That’s only 5 more batches in the Jobo!

After a few test rolls and some 10 rolls from the trip I’ve now also reached the limit of this litre of C41 chemicals. I will still run a few more unimportant rolls through the chemicals before I mix up a new batch, but essentially I’ve now finished my 5th litre of C41 chemicals and developed some 80 rolls of C41 film. That’s right, more than 80 rolls of mine were shot in colour! Who would have thought!

Of course this doesn’t mean that I don’t shoot any black and white anymore, on the contrary. I’ve just finished my 100ft roll of HP5+ and already shot 3 rolls of Fomapan 400 which I’m testing next. Developing black and white right now is a problem though because it’s just too warm, especially when mixing the chemicals involves an exothermic reaction like with Caffenol. Even if the water temperature out of the tap happens to be 18°C I end up with a 22°C mix of Caffenol somehow. Since the temperature also rises too quickly with Caffenol-CL giving me somewhat more unpredictable development times I’m now experimenting with rotary processing in Caffenol-CH, which only needs to keep the right temperature for 12-13 minutes. Besides, if I can develop the black and white in the Jobo I might just be able to prevent another backlog of black and white! The weather isn’t bad these days and the city is full of tourists, so I’m shooting a lot these days. I guess I should just use the opportunity, since the rainy season will come soon enough and prevent me from shooting as much.

OK, a little too far away, but you get the gist.

I actually took this picture twice because it happened at the end of the roll. And since the last and the first shot can go wrong, but usually don’t I’ve got two frames of this.

Now, looks just like a building where I would never want to live. Rather photogenic though.

And now for some leftovers of a roll of K400 @1600 stand-developed in Rodinal.

Taken from one bridge looking onto another. I like how sharp those tiny little figures turned out.
