The last couple of days I was in an adventurous mood. Last night I therefore took some night shots with the Rollei on Velvia 100. I think I’ve used my tripod about 3 or 4 times so far and it annoys the heck out of me. Every time I am reminded why I dislike using it. Instead of just framing and pressing the shutter there is all sorts of preparation necessary – setting up the tripod, attaching the camera, screwing in the cable release, trying to set the shutter speed without seeing the dials or the light meter for that matter because it’s just too bloody dark, waiting for people to get out of the frame etc …! In the end we went back home after I only shot half the roll, because I couldn’t be bothered to set the tripod up more than twice. Of the 6 frames I doubt that more than 2 had the time I intended for them. I keep forgetting that the slow times on my Rollei are too slow and bulb mode only makes sense if you actually keep pressing the cable release. Next time I might also try to remember taking my iPod so that I have a flashlight and a timer. In my defence it was the first time taking long exposures on film for me and the second time I ever even took long exposures at all. Next time it will be less messy I hope.
And how did my adventurous mood express itself today? Well, I jumped into the sea with my Canon WP-1 and found out that the Atlantic is still salty and that the WP-1 is indeed waterproof! I didn’t stay in the water too long (the Atlantic is salty and *not* warm), but the camera was definitely dry inside when I took the film out. So far I’m quite impressed with this beast. The image quality is decent enough and it generally does a better job than expected, especially for the price!
Of course I’m not showing you any of the pictures yet though. As always I’m months behind on everything!

At the planetarium.
Collective biking.
It takes a while to cross this street.
The window has me confused too.
Scooters are internationally pretty.
The name of the shop makes me chuckle a little because of the John Irving book I just read.
Also universal.
Practicing focus guesstimation at close distance. 10cm off isn’t too bad.
Plenty of new cars over there too, but also all kind of beautiful old cars.
