The last few weeks I have focussed on scanning and editing my film shots and haven’t even touched my digital camera since I came back from my last trip. I am completely hooked on film now and really enjoy the process of shooting and developing film. I’m not really happy with the scanning and dust-spotting part of film photography, but I think it’s a price I’m willing to pay. Nevertheless, I’m not fanatical when it comes to film. In some situations it definitely helps to have a digital camera as well. Sometimes I actually like being able to take more than just a couple of shots of a situation. Sometimes autofocus can help – especially if you’re trying to get a very close candid shot. And sometimes you just have the wrong kind of film in your camera to take the shot you want – for example black and white film when you want to catch a crazy sunset. And occasionally you just ran out of film when the aliens are landing (which of course happened to me already many times, I just don’t have proof)! So, although primarily I love working with film now, sometimes I’m really rather happy that there is digital too. And this is especially the case when I don’t feel like scanning and dust-spotting at all.
All pictures taken with: Olympus Pen E-PL3 and Panasonic Lumix 20mm f/1.7 ASPH.
This little alien had a ray gun!
And this guy – a detective probably – was trying to grab his gun too. Or do I have a too vivid imagination? By the way, I think the world was much more photogenic with the classic design of cars and all the men in hats. And no mobile phones! Ah, how I sometimes wish for time travel! What would I visit first? Paris in the 1920, New York in the 1950s and West-Berlin in the 1980s! I would take my Rolleicord with me of course.
Miniature world.
First shot I took after stepping out of the Joel Meyerowitz exhibition …! He totally screwed with my head. I’m still waiting for the last bit of gear for my colour film development so that I can embark on that adventure too!
Yes, I was in a colour mood and the sky was absolutely resonating with me.
And another one with my favourite view of that city.
Stretching.
Family fun.
This guy was doing a ton of nice tricks, but I really liked how he just picked up his hat without stopping.
I kept a respectful distance in case he actually wanted some peace and quiet. He actually ignored me completely although I came down to his eye level.
Ah, how I miss subway shots! It’s actually quite a bit too dark in that subway, so the autofocus was struggling.
Sweet!
What an interested series of shots ! love the ” stretching ” one. For me I see the film is like taking your digital camera ( any dslr ) with one prime lens. It just make you shot in that lens and that focal all the time, just like film it makes you limited to your number of shots and makes you think twice before pressing the shutter ! Although I still didn’t use film in the streets but I see it like this. Keep scanning and publishing !
