early summer joys

I took this bunch of pictures in San Sebastian before I travelled to Germany. It was unseasonably warm and it already felt a bit like summer, although it was still the beginning of March. The weather in San Sebastian can be great at times, although it’s entirely unpredictable when these times might be.

All pictures taken with: Olympus Pen E-PL3 and Panasonic Lumix 20mm f/1.7 ASPH.

Not only the bipeds were enjoying the premature summer.

This picture demonstrates that it’s merely a matter of statistics that I take so many pictures of children in San Sebastian: There just seem to be a lot more children there than in other places.

Male posturing …!

Since my visit in Düsseldorf is only a short one I don’t have that much time to spend on writing blog posts. The last few days I was busy meeting friends, spending time with my dad, going to the library, dealing with some red tape and going to the cinema. In between I’ve obviously been taking pictures and will show them to you soon. One day I actually didn’t get the chance to take any pictures though, because I noticed too late that my backup battery pack  wasn’t charged. I am not directly in Düsseldorf right now, but in a suburban town quite close to it, and so it would have taken too long to go back to charge the battery pack. Well, these things happen.

By now I am already in the middle of planning my move to Spain as well. I am basically living there already, spending less time in Germany than in Spain, but as long as my stereo and my books are still in Berlin, it doesn’t seem quite official yet. I’m really looking forward to leaving Berlin behind, since I stayed there much longer than I originally planned and have found it much less to my liking in the long run than it was in the short term when I was only there to write my Masters dissertation. My disappointment with Berlin probably was caused by my isolation there, which was in turn caused partly by my ailing health and the all too impersonal tango community in the city. For a few months superficial contacts with a few dancers might have sufficed to make me feel comfortable, but as soon as I knew that I was in Berlin for a longer period I began to realise that it would be much harder to find real friends than in a smaller town. I always was a city dweller, but I rarely felt as isolated as in Berlin among the crowds, which is not surprising considering the many negative things that have been said about life in the cities. The bigger the city the worse its isolating effects. I would have wished that I could have found a home in Berlin at least temporarily, but in the end it’s probably good that I didn’t, since otherwise it would be more difficult to leave now. Other shores, new opportunities and better times await.
