The local mall really caters to the families. There is a little playground where you can always see quite a lot of kids running around and having fun. This seems to be especially popular with the parents when it’s too cold to sit around the playground to watch your kids. For me it meant that I had the opportunity to shoot from an unusual perspective, right from above.

I have this thing for shooting people while reading. There is a lovely book by André Kertész called “On Reading”, which is one of my favourite photography books. I love books, so combining photography and books is always to my liking.
All pictures taken with my Canon EOS 450D and my Canon EF 50mm f/1.4.
Yesterday I sent another portfolio to the Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf. Another long shot, but at least I can say I tried. As a result I was again getting behind on my drawing schedule, I only drew for 1 1/2 hours. It’s difficult sometimes to sit down and draw, especially when it’s painstakingly slow exercises like the contour drawings. I need to be more disciplined about that. At least it seems that I’m making some progress, that’s something!
While out to bring the portfolio to the post office I took some pictures as well and realised again that 1/250 is not fast enough when moving. Lots of shaky pictures. Some keepers as always, but the shake ruined the best subject. Oh well, it counts as experience I guess.

Haven’t been by your blog for some time…you have some great street scenes here…especially like that top view of the children playing. Doing it in black/white seems to make everything have a gritty look which I like with your city-life photos. I can relate to your dislike of non-functioning items of daily life (your washer) as the selection knob on my clothes dryer broke so had to resort to using a pliers to guess where to select the proper cycle. Your photo of the bored child in the supermarket make me smile…how universal a scene whether in Germany or the US! Best to you.
