getting away from the world © Lilly Schwartz 2012
I really like this picture, because everyone just seems to be far far away in their own world. The bottle collector doesn’t care what everyone else thinks, the girl reading, the man sunk in on himself, the closed eyes of the man behind him, the thoughtful pose of the man in the background. It was such a strange scene, I just had to take a picture.
On the other hand, am I that different? Am I not also hiding behind my camera and not really engaging? Maybe, I engage more with the scene than the people in it, but still, I am just the silent gaze upon them, scrutinising their behaviour, their lives, their outlook.
Maybe it’s voyeuristic, but it’s also more than that. It’s taking notice where other people don’t.
Every picture tells a story – this one tells a half-dozen.
Thanks for sharing.
very interesting… btw this concept has a name – layering. Check out the work of Sam Abell and this one specifically:

I think this is a brilliant phtograph… tremendously well spotted and captured.. My instinct would have been to cut out the little bit of the woman far left but this would have unbalanced the picture a little because of cutting into the bin and the poster behind so I think you were probably right..
The whole photo has great balance… as you can see I like it !!
you witnessed yourself witnessing others, go on girl you are on the right track.
