Yesterday I went to Düsseldorf to meet with my friend. We met at the station and then headed to a Japanese restaurant on Immermannstraße. Since I’m allergic to all sorts of stuff, of course I couldn’t eat any of the meals there. However, I ordered a delicious mango juice and every now and then I had a bite of plain rice, which was actually quite nice considering. As close to eating out as I can get. Afterwards we walked towards the Altstadt, the old part of town, and on the way stepped into a robot shop. Yes, there actually is a robot shop in Düsseldorf. Apart from robotic vacuum cleaners and lawn mowers they also had a few bug robots. They had different remote controlled ones with legs. Sadly they weren’t programmable or I probably would have bought one to play a bit. Does that all sound a bit Japanese to you? Well, this was all in the Japanese quarter, which is just in front of the station. For some reason there are quite a lot of Japanese in Düsseldorf and my friend studied Japanese at the university here. At one point he triumphantly pointed at a sign in Japanese and said “hah”. Since I don’t understand Japanese though, he had to explain that they are looking for staff.
Near the river Rhein we bought some mango and water melon slices, then quickly stepped into a record shop without buying anything, and then sat down on a bench overlooking the river to eat. It was so bright that we soon decided to move on. On the way back we walked through the Hofgarten where I took this picture. I think my brain is starting to work monochrome now, since I could put this through black and white conversion without even adjusting the contrasts much.

Sounds like the perfect day (except for the eating part…I would be a mess if I couldn’t eat what I wanted to lol)…love the leading line up to the couple…awesome image!
Thanks Tammy 🙂 It was a pretty nice day indeed! Well, I’m used to not being able to eat everything I want, so you just get used to it. When I was diagnosed it was pretty tough, but over the years it just becomes second nature.

Thanks Aaron 🙂 Yes, it’s indeed a very nice park. What adds to it is that the opera house is just next to it and when you sit on the grass you can sometimes hear the singing.
If I was on G+ (instead of living under a rock) I’d add you in a minute, Ms. S – I hate to miss out on any of your shots.
I think you had mentioned you weren’t too happy with the color, but in a few of them I think it works quite well (particularly the flowers and scooter)… almost feels hand colored to me. Nice! As is the above, of course!

It’s true, in some of them I managed to get the colour back fine, but in some it didn’t work at all. Oh well. I intend to shoot black and white on film anyway, later when I’ve figured out this camera a bit more 😉 Glad you like my colour conversions though!
Really nice composition. I suspected that this was an out-of-the-camera shot. A good feeling when that happens. We should all be forced to accept what we shoot without post processing, huh? Not many of mine would make the cut! 🙂

Thank you Richard 🙂 The symmetry was definitely interesting, although I think the people walking add to it to break it up a bit. Too symmetrical is also not good 🙂
