day 316: her own little world

Seems like around here I’m spending lots of time waiting at stations. When I do, I often take out my camera and start shooting randomly. Especially yesterday it was just dreary and raining all the time, which left me with rather grey and boring shots apart from the ones I took at the station. I liked this one especially, since nobody seems to be paying any attention to the girl and even her mother is just looking at the camera as if she found it utterly strange that I’d be taking a picture of this moment.

Yesterday we were at the El Greco and the Modernity exhibition in the museum kunst palast in Düsseldorf. It was really a nice exhibition, showing works of El Greco alongside with modern German painters. I was especially fascinated by Ludwig Meidner’s apocalypse landscapes, although that probably is due to my own obsession with the apocalypse. In general a very enjoyable exhibition that I can only recommend to anyone visiting Düsseldorf right now.

  • This is nice. My teacher would say “content rich.” The very randomness of this is exactly what makes it interesting. As much or more than the little girl, the ordinary people just kinda waiting; the clock…

    • Oh yes, the randomness was also what pulled me to push the trigger. And somehow she was also surrounded by people. Just a minute before the platform was almost empty!

  • This IS very interesting! Almost seems unreal…she is indeed in her own little world. It is almost as if she is invisible to all the others (and I love their facial expressions) except her mom and she is giving her a look as if thinking “there she goes again!”

    • Thank you Karen! That’s precisely how I feel about this picture as well. She’s invisible to the adults in some way. I guess we have to learn how to look again!

  • Super photo!!!

  • I’m perpetually in awe of your street-photography, Ms. S…
    🙂

    • Thanks again 🙂 I was also so happy with this picture! That’s also why street photography can be so interesting. Such things can’t be anticipated!

  • Lovely image! 🙂
