Last Saturday I went grocery shopping with my dad in the suburban town of Kaarst. It is one of those commuter towns that seems entirely abandoned during weekdays and only comes to life on Saturday when it’s time for the weekly market. I am truly glad that I don’t have to live in that town anymore. I used to live there while I was finishing high school.
All pictures taken with: Olympus Pen E-PL3 and Panasonic Lumix 20mm f/1.7 ASPH.
I love that this little guy was holding the broccoli like a bouquet of flowers.
Behind the guy it says on the bottom: horse meat and horse sausage. Never tried it. Maybe next time.
A little moment of solidarity.
These people seem to be engaging in the ritual of small talk the one time they see each other every week. Ah, to be boring …!
Envy … this little one had two big bags gummibears!
The little girl on the right stood a bit apart. Her facial expression shows that she was very far away.
I doubt that this boy is Albanian, but nevertheless, he’s wearing the Albanian coat of arms.
These guys were in a hurry, which was obviously odd. Why would anyone with balloons be in a hurry? Turns out they were almost late for a wedding.
Just outside town hall. Forcing your friends to wear silly pink outfits and wigs seems ludicrous – nothing I’d attempt with my friends -, but I guess people with such a pronounced carnival culture like that sort of thing. Why would anyone want that though? And why would anyone agree to do that? Brain washing all around.
The bag says Good. And the “dog” was actually shivering. These little things are clearly not made for the real world.
Although I’m still posting pictures from the Rhein area I arrived in Berlin yesterday. No disasters awaited me and although my plants did look a bit sad, they might be still alive. For now I’m taking it easy, since it’s been a busy week, but I’m sure I’ll find something nice to do as well these days. Maybe a visit to the cinema or to an exhibition. After all this is Berlin and there is always something to do!
Nice pictures that mirror the banality of small town life. And yes…to quote a caption, “And the “dog” was actually shivering.” Why is “dog” in quotes? That puzzles me. Is it not a dog?
Exactly, the banality of small town life is really very oppressive in that town! Obviously not the best place for street photography.
The “dog” is in quotation marks, because it’s really rather like a large rat. Technically it might be a dog, but if I say that I’d like to have a dog, then I certainly don’t mean that sorry excuse for a dog 😉
