day 340: bikes in the rain

Did I mention the rain? I think I did. I can mention it again, although it seems there will be some nicer weather coming soon. The gulf stream changed direction or something. In any case, maybe we even get something like a proper summer! I’d certainly like that because it seems that I’ll be in Berlin over the summer after all.

However, the summer isn’t here yet — I know, it’s July, but I wouldn’t call this a summer! Yesterday it was all rain again. Rain, rain and more rain. And some thunder and lightning to finish it all off. Therefore you shouldn’t be surprised when I tell you that I took this picture from afar with my telephoto lens, instead of going out into the rain. The processing was a modified Tri-X preset with some regular grain and a bit of IR glow. I also adjusted the levels settings to make it pop a bit more. I was really surprised how the picture turned out, since it was really rather boring straight out of the camera. After the processing I quite like it though.

Oh, by the way. The poll is actually very informative, since it tells me that you’re also having a tough time deciding. Right now we have a tie between the first and the third picture while yesterday the second picture had the most votes for a short period of time. Well, it seems that there won’t be a clear winner. In any case, if you haven’t done so already, please also vote on the poll. Vote below or read more about it here (you can also see bigger versions of the pictures there). I’ll be closing the poll tomorrow morning.

You can send some of that rain my way…it’s been 100 degrees for weeks w/ no rain in sight! 🙁

  • Hi, Commentary as follows: Nice photo, very, very nice! I missed the poll. 🙁 so sorry.
I love rain! You can go with the flow and photograph through wet glass. I think so. Instead of software effects, real-life effects. I used to get made in winter when my lens fogged and then I tried fogged pictures and some were super– some honest moods going on. I’ve been scarce due to music work and my hands hurt when I type who knows why. Cool here in the evening, in the 50s. Bugs. I hate bugs in the air; then I cave in and look for bug to take a picture of. One more reaction. Remember the talk here about lawns and grass and the suburbs? Well, think about it; rain, weeds, wild growth. Man is anguished over rain, plants love it. I dunno, just thinking.

  • Rain can sure make for some miserable working conditions, but the reflections / unusual lighting conditions can sure make up for that, too!
    🙂

  • Love the composition in this. And sorry I missed the poll. I hope the weather’s improved in the 10 days since you posted this 🙂
