Yesterday I went to the flea market at the Mauerpark in Berlin. It’s one of these places where you hear a lot of English and many tourists go there to enjoy the karaoke in the adjacent park. I myself was looking for a yellow filter for my new camera, but I was rather unsuccessful. I had a quick chat with a girl about the appalling state most of the cameras and lenses are in on the market and then decided to look for records instead. I was quite happy when I found Kicking against the pricks by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. It’s one of my favourite albums although it’s mainly cover versions. The way it’s sung is just amazing. After buying the record I wandered off into the adjacent park, which was packed with people.

I ended up with a ton of interesting pictures, some with interesting people, some with strange stuff found on the flea market and even a couple down in the subway. The nicest of them all is this one though, because the light was just fantastic. It was not taken in the park, but just a few blocks away. Berlin is full of little parks or green squares that are just a block or two wide. I guess these are all the spaces where nobody bothered to rebuild the houses after the war.

I ran it through similar processing as the the Hofgarten picture I posted yesterday and love the atmosphere of the outcome. I think this might actually become a series, since I still have quite a few nice pictures taken in the park last year. So far I didn’t quite know what to do with them, because nature pictures can actually be quite boring if the details aren’t exactly right.

Comments

  • Fantastically fuzzy! Totally agree with you about nature pictures – this one works though. Nick Cave’s cool too.

  • A+ oh and PS, I mentioned Sam Abell a previous comment. His name is spelled Abell (two L’s)

  • Brilliant, Ms. S! You’ve created the kind of place where it would be easy to loose track of the hours…

    • Thank you 🙂 That’s definitely what drew me to the scene in the first place, because it seemed like such an oasis in the city grey.

  • Great shot – very atmospheric. 🙂

  • Lovely, almost dreamlike image.

  • Sensuous image.
