autumn is here © Lilly Schwartz 2011
Some days are more eventful than others and looking back at yesterday from today’s perspective makes my mind seem blank. I know we went to buy some groceries and since the streets are full of fallen leaves it really smelled like autumn too. I always enjoyed autumn when I was younger and before cold weather had any bad effect on me. The coats, the crisp air, the smell, the leaves, the chestnuts and the first moment when you are waiting for the bus or the train and think “Oh, I wish I had my gloves on me”. Even the early darkness I used to like, although I can’t really explain why.
The most I enjoyed sitting inside with a warm cup of tea near the radiator, looking out of the window at the blowing leaves while listening to some music. Well, that’s probably later in autumn when it’s almost turning to winter, because so far I’m not yet tempted to put the radiator on since we had a little bit of a heat wave over the last week. Now it’s cooling down a bit, but I expect it to stay warm enough in the flat for a few more days.
I also enjoy warm baths in the cold days. This flat only has a shower, so I will have to get by without such luxuries. I wonder when it will be time for the radiator and the hot water bottle. Maybe next week. My hot water bottle actually comes in the shape of a white yeti from nichtlustig.de. Literally “nicht lustig” means “not funny” and it’s an online comic that’s usually on the other side of bad taste. It’s about a million ways of lemmings committing suicide, about death in person, yetis with weird hobbies and about a guy who lives literally in the wall annoying his neighbour through the electrical outlet. A lot of the jokes are really not funny, but make you chuckle anyway. If you speak German, it’s definitely a comic to check out and if not check it out anyway: it’s usually just a sentence to translate, well possible even only with a dictionary. And maybe you’ll even pick up a few words of German in the process.
I simply adore that photo. Really, really good. 🙂
Thanks Katie! 🙂 I’m glad you like it!
Great composition, wonderful in its simplicity. Like the hot water bottle!
Thanks! I love the hot water yeti. He has been a great help in many a situation too 🙂
Excellent photo. The single leaf blown between the wrought iron bars, the soft tint — depicts autumn in a very muted but clear way. Excellent.
Thanks Cecelia! It’s one of these little details that I so love about the world. Most people don’t notice them, but with a camera in hand they might just jump out at you 🙂
Yes! I love this! I love Autumn!
Thanks! Autumn can be nice indeed. I wish it wasn’t so cold though, since the cold doesn’t agree with me all too much …
And this, too, is lovely!
Thanks 🙂 I like especially that part of the leaf is getting blurry already thanks to the d.o.f.

Love this photo!! Excellent composition and color contrast.
Your macro is stunning and your musings interesting.
Lilly…magnificent writing..provocative and stimulating thoughts
a literary treatment on these musings might start…”sitting near the radiator, my hands wrapped around a cup of tea, I gaze thoughtlessly at the wind blow the autum leaves outside…winter will soon be here….I loved autum as a child; it’s scent comes to me again…interesting how the past conditions our thoughts on the present”
surely you know this classic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8kP8jPa1wCg
Beautiful one again… You caught and captured such a nice composition… Thank you, with my love, nia
