I have been meaning to go out with my tripod for a while now and yesterday I somehow missed the daylight. A perfect opportunity. Ezequiel preferred to stay at home last night, since it was after dinner, but at the same time he seemed to worry about me going out alone at night. “Is it safe?” he asked me and I said “Of course it is”! Well, if you have read some of my previous posts you might know that I wouldn’t quite care if it wasn’t really safe either. After all I go into dark parks at night.
Although I went out with my tripod I didn’t take the picture above with it. I should have since then I could have had a less dark shot, but it’s always a little bit too much work to put the tripod up. Using it for every shot is just tedious. I also got some of the shots I planned, but in the end this unplanned shot turned out to be more interesting.
I especially like that there is a key label for “Bühne”, i.e. stage. I’d sure prefer to have the key for the main stage rather than the one for the toilet. The numbers make me think of cheap hotels and I specifically also think of the weird hotels I’ve stayed in together with my mum when we came to visit Berlin ages ago. I remember one of them being in Russian hand, and it was also right next to a brothel, but my memory might be skewing these early big city adventures a bit, so I can’t be sure of it now. I have been in Berlin often before I moved here and I always liked it, because it was so special! Berlin is a place that has everything, the ugly realities and the gleaming tourist attractions. And you can probably also climb up on all of these tourist spots if you’re not as lazy as I am when it comes to stairs.
On that note: My current flat is on the 4th floor without a lift and these days I get really out of breath when climbing all these stairs. The next place will either be not so far up or have a lift, because it’s really not that much fun if you’re feeling a bit under the weather. And yes, I’m aware of the fact that I’m talking like an old lady just now. As long as I still get asked for ID all the time I probably don’t have to worry about my age.
I really like the shot of the keys…Well done!
You best take someone along when you do out into the dark, especially parks.

Thanks Debbie! Ah, I’m not sure it’s really necessary to be so worried in the dark. Especially the later it gets the more likely it is that the bad boys are asleep too 😉
tripods take time and could be a hassle ,not just using it but chugging it along is painful. often times i have realized at the end of a hectic hike (uphill) that i carried my tripod for nothing (so it goes also for the bagful of lenses for the ‘what if’ scenarios) . I’ve since then tried to be more judicious about when to take and when to not.
Really its a matter of style (and it could vary from each photo session). if you think its coming in your way of the ‘real thing’ which is taking pictures 🙂 then of course its not worth carrying it. As an alternative do consider a wider lens then if you do a lot of low light shooting.
Indeed, tripods can be such a hassle and a bagful of lenses too. Sometimes I enjoy just limiting myself with one lens and that’s it. Limitations can get you to be more creative too. I think in the long run I will just get a wider lens for the low light. Or maybe I will get used to the hassle of tripods too.
sorry typo by ‘wider’ i meant faster(higher max aperture) and not wider(wide angle) but i think you understood despite 🙂
I read it as wider aperture, so I understood what you meant 🙂
Wow this one is especially amazing.
