Since Berlin is a big city and full of tourists there are many things that one can do even if you don’t speak the language. In fact you can even go to the cinema if you speak English since there is the CineStar Original in the Sony Center at the Potsdamer Platz. Yesterday we went there to see the film The Debt. It’s a spy thriller told in two times, present time and in the 60’s when the mission took place which is the background of the present time story. The film was generally engaging and nicely filmed. There is a wonderful repetition of a scene: it is ever so slightly different the second time round and it is so nerve wrecking although one already seems to know what’s going to happen. I enjoyed the film a lot. However, I also think that the ending could have been a bit better if it hadn’t moved to moral high ground. Nevertheless I can fully recommend the film. Funny was also that for filming run-down 1960’s East Berlin they had to go to Budapest!
The Potsdamer Platz is a quite impressive spot by the way. Skyscrapers, some historical monuments and it also used to be Europe’s biggest building site after the wall came down. The wall was basically in the middle of the square and around the wall there was just nothing as long as the wall was still standing. They changed that after the reunification. A lot of places in Berlin don’t really look like the city is a European capital at all, but Potsdamer Platz is one of the exceptions. Generally there are still many very old buildings and most of the apartment buildings are not very high. It’s not like places in England that have narrow semidetached houses with 2 floors maximum, but the buildings are still not as tall as many buildings in San Sebastian for example. It does look like a city, but not like a European capital mostly. Potsdamer Platz however really looks urban and not even bad at that.
The non-smart-ass title for this picture is ‘brain freeze’ by the way!
The title is a little…complicated and frightening enough to make me curious about your photo. I like the geometric grid with the blues and the reds. Brava, again!

I love what you wrote… makes me want to see the film! I’m intrigued! I love the photo also… especially the color… I feel like you tend towards monochrome but here, you have executed the color beautifully. What are you doing in Berlin? I’ve always wanted to travel there. Also, I love that the flavor on the right is called Pink Lady! 🙂 ha!
Oh, glad that you like it Polly! Actually I think there are very few monochrome pictures on this blog, although I seriously like monochrome. I actually just live in Berlin for the tango and because I like it here. There is no special reason actually. It’s definitely worth a trip! By the way, I wouldn’t dare to try this stuff, it looks too radioactive for me 😉

I have been looking through your last couple of posts and as usual the photographs are all very good. But still this one is the best of the last couple of days – for me that is, simply because it’s less literal than the others. This fantastic glove coming from inside the almost despicable and artificial colours makes the whole picture so surreal. And combined with the words it brings my thoughts into some strange sci-fi world where your pink dreams or tropical dreams or whatever can be achieved with some artificial goo by the push of the button. Almost scary, but a great picture. And thank you for the recommendation of The Debt, being a movie-lover myself and not having seen this one, I will certainly look it up.
Thanks indeed! I’m quite happy with this shot too and I think I was going for the colourful glow I enjoy on other blogs too that can only be achieved through artificial lighting in dark surroundings. I find most amazing that people actually drink that stuff. It looks too radioactive to me to try, although I try many different things when prompted in the right way. I’m actually a great fan of sci-fi so if the picture has that effect on you it’s more than I hoped to be achieving with it! And I also love movies, especially going to the cinema.
