Yesterday I was travelling from Düsseldorf back to Berlin. I got up early, packed the last bits and bobs, had a little breakfast, talked to my man and then I walked to the closest S-Bahn station in the town where my dad lives. My suitcases were heavy and it didn’t take long until I started swearing. I don’t like travelling, mostly because it involves things like badly balanced cheap luggage that keeps falling over and big bruises on the legs that you get from trying not to fall down staircases with your two suitcases. When I reached Düsseldorf I found the lift downstairs to change platforms, but on the platform where my ICE train was supposed to leave the elevator was out of service. Obviously …!
In the end I still had about half an hour before my train was leaving and I sat down to take pictures. Taking photos at train stations as simple as the one in Düsseldorf can only be candid people photography, since the building is boring, if not even ugly. There are also pigeons, but they move too fast for the difficult lighting conditions. However, taking pictures of people at train stations also gets you lots of bored faces or faces of people like me who hate travelling. You get people yawning, playing with their mobile phones and the faces of people who are eating. All those situations are rather unflattering to be honest, so again one of the more challenging conditions for photography.
Then finally I managed to capture a great train station moment: Two women embracing, probably mother and daughter. They were so happy to see each other and hugged each other tightly. And again a picture that would not have been possible without my 55-250mm lens which I have had for a week now.

Great shot! I love my 55-250, too! 🙂
Yeah, the 55-250mm is nice. It gives real flexibility for street photography, since you are far away enough to not scare people with your huge DSLR+lens. However, at 250mm it really needs a steady hand even though it has a stabilizer. For the price I’m very happy with it though 🙂
