Yesterday was the last tango lesson of the year for us and for once the weather wasn’t too miserable. I loaded my XA with some rather hastily rolled XP2 and off we went. We were actually running late for the train, which is actually not that surprising since I’ve been running late by about 10 minutes since my childhood. At some point my husband starts laughing and I ask “What?!” He says: “We’re running late and you’re taking pictures!” – “Hey, I’m not even stopping!” Well, that’s what happens when you’re running late with a photographer! Of course we still reached the train with minutes to spare. I guess, the reason for my perpetual lateness is that I don’t like waiting.
By the way, on the way back I was actually annoyed at myself for not taking any colour film, because there was such an amazing sky! Well, next time I’ll just throw a roll in the bag just in case. It’s kinda like taking an umbrella though – it never rains out of the blue when I have an umbrella!
These days I’m actually rather busy, partly because I’m trying to scan a bit more than I need for my (almost) daily posts. We are travelling for Christmas next week and I won’t have a scanner, so I want to have a few rolls scanned to be able to also show you some film stuff even when I’m not home. Here one disadvantage film becomes obvious: It’s just not as easy as popping in a memory card, a bit of minor editing and and you’re done! There is actually developing, scanning and editing/dust-spotting involved which takes a fair amount of time. Especially the dust-spotting is rather time-consuming although I have developed some methods to at least reduce dust (Preventing it altogether probably needs a stage 4 clean room though). For me the effort is definitely worth it, because I just love the atmosphere I can get with the right film and development, but of course the annoying bits of scanning and dust-spotting can become a bit tedious. Especially when I’m travelling I just don’t have the time for all of that. So, until the end of the year you might actually see a bit more digital stuff from my archives instead of more recent film shots. Nevertheless, I will definitely stick to film during this trip, mainly because I will have my new Leica to play with! I can’t wait!
All pictures taken with: Olympus XA, F.Zuiko 35mm f/2.8.
Rollei RPX 400 stand-developed in Caffenol-CL, 60min.
Strange reflection? Well, that’s because this was taken through a coach window on my last trip.
I don’t often shoot from buses, but I definitely had fun with it that time!
I like his shadow.
More pessengers.
Waiting for a different bus. The Krewman in the back kinda made me chuckle.
I had my XA on a table for this one. ISO 400 is hardly enough for handheld night shots.
Enjoy your Leica now, I’ll wait for the pictures and for your comments of this new great experience 🙂
