The pictures I’m showing to you today were taken at the beginning of the year. Since they were still processed with the old agitation scheme in Ultrafin they still have quite a bit of grain. The next analog pictures I’ll be posting will be from a more recent roll. The old agitation scheme was: 60sec of swirling at the beginning and one inversion every minute. The new scheme is 30 sec agitation at the start, 5sec agitation every minute and 30 sec of agitation at the end, whereas agitation means careful swirling. The differences in grain and tonality that result from this slight change of agitation are tremendous. Apparently the inversions and less careful swirling results in a pronounced increase in grain. As always: The more agitation, the more grain. It goes to show how very important every detail of analog processing can be. At the moment I’m shooting about two rolls of film a week and there are still about 10 rolls worth of scans that need some dust removal, so you will see more results both with the old and with the new agitation scheme.
