Berlin celebrates New Year’s Eve with a massive party near the Brandenburger Tor. I’m not one for crowds, especially when it involves terrible stage acts and lots of drunk people armed with fireworks. Still, you have to appreciate your surroundings for what they have to offer, and so just before 12 we went on a little walk to the next bridge above the railway lines. It was the Bösebrücke (literally “evil bridge”) at S-Bahnhof Bornholmer Straße. I already checked it out on Google Streetview before and thought it might be a good spot to watch the fireworks, since it has a view of the TV Tower. And yes, indeed, it sure was quite something! There was a crowd there, throwing fireworks, drinking and celebrating, and the view onto the fireworks in the city centre was spectacular! Armed with my telephoto lens I managed to take a number of interesting pictures. However, I didn’t have a tripod on me and there wouldn’t have been space anyway, so there are quite a bit of shaky ones to be sifted through as well. The picture I’m posting today is probably the most spectacular one and already on the viewscreen of my camera I knew that it was a keeper.
Happy New Year everyone!
AD MAIORA!
