If you’ve been following my vlogs then you know that I’ve been in a never-ending editing hamster wheel. I’m trying to do my best to get through all the rolls I have developed now and trying to motivate myself to do this part of the process, but it’s hard. It’s the part of the film photography process that I actually dislike the most because it actually involves computers. I do enjoy the darkroom side of things, but scanning and editing at the computer are truly the worst of the worst. On the other hand, I like to show you guys my work, so it has to be done! So, to motivate myself I now listen to music while editing and then post my favourite picture of each batch on Twitter and here on the blog. This picture was taken with my Rollei on Provia 100F and the roll was developed in HC-110 and C41 chemicals instead of E6. It turned out surprisingly well for this little experiment. It’s not yet a completely predictable process, but if I want to get back to shooting E6 this might be a solution to get around the lack of small E6 development kits.
Today’s editing soundtrack: Client – City. 15 years later I still think starting an album with the line “Life is cruel and then you die!” is a stroke of genius. It’s one of those albums that stomps you into the ground and then lifts you back up. I listened to it a lot in 2005 while I was doing my apprenticeship in the IT sector. Instantly propels me back to the school ground of the vocational school, memories of going to my first Star Trek Convention and the smell of coffee. One day that year I bought a new coffee machine and it came with several kinds of coffee to try. I decided to try each kind, not knowing that they were twice as strong as filter coffee. Of course that night I couldn’t sleep so in the middle of the night I called a friend and asked whether they wanted to have pancakes and drink coffee until the morning. And that’s exactly what we did! This was also the time when I really got into photography for the first time and bought myself a little digital point and shoot to carry with me everywhere. I was taking a lot of pictures before already, but this was the time when I shifted from just documenting the moments in my life to trying to make something that transcends that.
So, is this the return of the daily blog? I don’t know, it depends how often I edit pictures. I’m trying to make it almost daily at least. Also, don’t worry, the long blog posts will return too. I just need to get the bulk of these rolls out of the way so that I can get back to some sort of posting schedule. 95 rolls left to go.
