Today I looked through my negative folder and located two rolls that I’ve been meaning to re-scan to test my Pakon scanner a bit more. Of course I’ve already scanned literally hundreds of rolls with the Pakon, but so far most of them have been either black and white or cheap consumer films, since I hardly ever shoot pro emulsions in 35mm. Since the Pakon’s software was written before current pro emulsions like Portra and Ektar came out, it doesn’t have presets for those films and I wanted to finally see how it dealt with them. Turns out that it does a pretty good job even without those presets. Both the Ektar and the Portra scans needed only very little adjustment, which means that I might shoot more of the stuff at some point. Especially the Portra 400 is growing on me now that I’ve been shooting it in 120.

Other than that I’ve been developing more film, which means that I only have 10 rolls from Argentina left to do. Since I’ve reached the limit of the number of recommended rolls again I will finish the litre off with 5 unimportant rolls and mix the last litre of the Fuji chemicals before continuing with the next Argentina batch. At the current rate I could finish with the rest of the rolls in just a few days and also use up the last litre of the Fuji Hunt C41 chemicals rather quickly. This would leave me free to get started with the E6 kit that has been sitting around here for several months. It feels good to be almost done now with a task that should have been finished months ago!
