With -8°C out there we actually decided to have a warm day in today. There isn’t much to report apart from the fact that I have shot 21 rolls of film with my Leica so far – 9 rolls of colour and the rest black and white. Wait, why so much colour? Well, I ran out of black and white film and somehow a packet with 10 rolls of RPX400 has disappeared on the way to me. The only film I had left was the colour film that I had bought to take back home with me, but that’s gone too now. My friend Almut gave me a couple of rolls of black and white film yesterday, so I’m not entirely without film, but somehow I shot a lot more colour film than I expected, all cheap drugstore film, this time from dm. Tomorrow I will have to stock up on that too.

In any case, it seems that there will be more colour in my future than I expected! I actually wanted to stop shooting 35mm colour and only shoot special occasions and nature / landscapes with it in 120. Maybe I have to think about that a bit more. I know that colour street photography doesn’t really work for me, but I’m wondering whether I should push to try to get the hang of it anyway.

I also only have a couple of scanned rolls left to show you, so I’m planning my posts a bit to make them last until I’m back home. Strange to be running out of shots, when I actually have quite a few rolls left to show you at home! This roll was shot on my last trip and there are still a few more rolls of that trip that I still need to scan. Then there are more rolls from back home left to develop and scan, and of course all the rolls that I shot on this trip. I definitely have enough material to keep me busy during the rainy winter season!

This totally cracks me up. The guy is standing as if praying like the sculptures on the church, but he’s actually just looking at his phone. Modern gods.

This is so old-fashioned! I’m glad that I developed this in Rodinal, it enhances the effect!

  • Color or B&W? Not an easy answer for myself, now I decided to stay with B&W for at least a few months…but I’m sure I’ll find soon a lot of wonderful attractive unbelievable colors that will make hard not to change my plan…
Decision? So easy, so difficult 🙂

Ah, I hear ya, Robert! Originally it was very easy for me. I had never seen any colour prints that made me go “wow”, so it wasn’t anything I was working towards. Very different with BW. But then there was this Meyerowitz exhibition with dye transfer prints that were absolutely mind boggling. And now I really want to get to a point where I can make some of those! I’m thinking more of landscape work there, but now colour is sort of pushing itself in my street stuff too. It’s all very odd for me!
