While I was in Berlin I scanned some of the 35mm rolls from my XA to evaluate the camera. This was done with my old Epson v330 and I have to say that I was quite shocked at the ugly grain this scanner churned out in combination with Tri-X. No wonder I didn’t used to like Tri-X. Now I’m happily back home with my v700, which in combination with medium format made Tri-X my favourite film. I will still shoot Kentmere 400 when pushing, but after I finish my current batch of K400 I will definitely switch to Tri-X as my regular box speed film.

Apart from a couple of rolls of medium format film I shot with the Rolleicord at the end of my stay, one of which I haven’t developed yet, I also shot 3 rolls of 120 with the Isolette. This was the first of them and I shot it on the day I bought my XA at Photo Stade near Kurfürstendamm. This time the focus worked out a lot better, although of course there is still scope for improvement.

Meet Georges on the left. He noticed the Isolette and we started talking about gear and photography. We ended up shooting together and then stopped by the camera shop where we both left with a shiny new toy. He is actually a Leica man so I got to hold a Leica M9 for a moment. Total gear envy!
