no more 1h development

Although we planned to take it easy yesterday we decided to go to Parque Centenario to take some pictures and have a look at the flea market in the end. And boy was it a nice park! Very crowded, but at the same time relaxed, a guy with a bandoneon playing some tango and it was very nice for pictures too. I shot 2 rolls with the Leica, almost finishing a 3rd and also 1 roll with the Rollei. Of course we also bought some books and looked at a stall with diverse old cameras in bad state (not buying anything).

Since I was worried that I might run out of film and also because I was curious I also had a look which exact film might be in those drugstore canisters I usually get in Germany. It seems to be something rather similar to Fuji Superia 400, so if I run out of film I can try to get some of that to keep the same look. It’s not cheap over here, but it wouldn’t break the bank to buy a few rolls.

Also, in case I want to shoot black and white I discovered that there is one film that is affordable although not cheap. It’s Ilford Pan 400 in bulk, which is supposedly very similar to Kentmere 400 / RPX 400 again. This means that I could continue my love affair with cheap and cheerful Ilford film even here.

All pictures taken with: Leica M6 + Zeiss ZM C-Biogon 35mm f/2.8.
XP2 stand-developed in Rodinal 1:100.

I think I was on a long shadow trip on that day.

Although I have the same problem frequently I have never solved it like this …

  • Funny remark about the photolab.

I like Pan 400 it is a supposedly a Ilford UK export film only, I think it’s better than K400 which I have grown to dislike immensely.Still I have never managed to get good results with any type of film from stand development either so it’s probably down to me.

I love shadows too…I bet you would love Cuba Lilly all that 50s style.

    • Strange that, I find Kentmere rather pleasing in Caffenol. That said I shoot a lot more of the Rollei RPX 400 variant, because I order a lot from Maco. To me it looks pretty much the same. I guess I will have to try the Pan 400 and see whether I can find a difference. As for stand-development, are you using Rodinal? K400 works a lot better in Caffenol.

And yes, Cuba is definitely on my list! I might be rather close to there (4h flight probably) sometime next year, so maybe it can be arranged. I would love to see it!

No I still haven’t used caffenol even though I bought the ingredients about six months ago I have your recipe saved so I will try it and will shoot a roll of K400 next.. I had a lovely day yesterday shooting a Tri-X roll in a Rolleicord and am going to develop that in Rodinal at 1.50 for 13 mins, works a treat with Fomapan but not K-400. Never ever received so many positive comments from people when they see you using a Rollei, what a beautiful camera. type comments.

Nearly forgot I don’t like the film base on the K400 either it seems thin and brittle to me.
