After another couple of rolls in my new Jobo tank I’m starting to get the hang of the spools. The first two rolls still involved a bit of swearing, but this time I did much better. It shouldn’t be long until I have it all figured out. The first two rolls turned out flawlessly, but HP5+ rarely makes any trouble with uneven development anyway, so I will have to wait and see whether my previous problems return when I start shooting something more problematic again. And after scanning yesterday’s rolls I was also reminded why HP5+ used to be my favourite film. I’m not sure about the grain yet, my preferences have changed a bit, but I really liked the tonality of the straight scans. It dries pretty flat too, so it’s a good companion for my Pakon. And with the bulk loading prices it’s not too prohibitively expensive either. I think I might order a batch of it in 120 as well to see whether it’s as nice.

The girl on the left had a “working class hero” t-shirt. I missed the moment to catch it properly, but I like the picture anyway.

  • I actually switched from Jobo to Patterson tanks years back because I just never managed to get the lid on correctly so that it doesn’t leak. With the Patterson you don’t even have to the lid on in the dark.

    • Interesting! Mine seems to be tight, doesn’t leak at all, at least for now. With the Paterson the lid is too tight actually. It takes me ages to get the lid on and sometimes it pops off again and starts to leak, infuriating.
