Today I’m posting pictures taken in November last year while I was shooting for my Down Below project. There are still quite a lot of pictures from the project sitting in my archive and I guess I might as well post them when I don’t have anything new to show. This doesn’t mean that I’m not shooting right now – on the contrary, I’m trying to use every day that I’m here in the area also for shooting. It rather means that I didn’t have the time to edit any pictures. Instead of editing I spent my time today battling with my blog to get the notification bar at the top of my site to play nicely with the rest of the layout. At the moment I’m using it to draw attention to my exhibition which starts on Monday in Cologne.

All pictures taken with: Olympus Pen E-PL3 and Panasonic Lumix 20mm f/1.7 ASPH.

Commuters seeking distractions. I’d obviously go with the book.

Haha, the girl looks very suspicious of me. She probably figured out what I was doing.

The security guy was actually telling the guy to stop begging on the station. The dog wasn’t very pleased …!

When it’s cold even in the subway then it’s really cold outside. The Berlin subway isn’t as bad as the London underground with the heat, but it’s definitely warmer down there than outside.

Ground inspection. I’ve seen this woman in many places in Berlin, always on stations and I think I even have another picture of her taken a few months earlier (taken at Gesundbrunnen). She is probably one of the many bottle collectors trying to scrape a living from the bottle deposit. Homeless people, poor pensioners and even organised groups have created a profession around collecting bottles out of bins that people don’t want to return out of laziness. Recently I read that the government is intending to get rid of the whole industry by using less accessible bins and creating new laws. It would hit quite a few people rather hard.
