black and white (eye-)candy

Tri-X and I seem to have a little love-hate relationship going on. At first I didn’t like it at all, mainly because I only ever tried it in Rodinal and shot it with a yellow filter. After ditching the filter and seeing it developed in Tetenal Ultrafin I somehow fell in love with it though. Now I even occasionally find the odd Tri-X in Rodinal picture that I quite like. Nevertheless, it’s really not an easy film to get along with. It is prone to uneven development, extremely high contrast and produces curly negatives, which all makes it a little bit of a nightmare to scan. On the other hand, the few times when I got it all right it really produces some stunning results. I’ll keep trying, although definitely not in Rodinal. Sure, some of these turned out alright with regards to the tonality, but it was really a major headache in post-processing. For now all my Tri-X hopes are on Caffenol.
